The background is set in Jiangcheng in the 1920s, a period of the Republic of China full of changes and undercurrents. The heroine Su Yunjin, originally the pseudonym of Gu Xiu, the inheritor of the "bone embroidery" technique, was mistakenly convicted of murder and jailed for more than 300 days because of a fire that destroyed her family and life five years ago. Now she returns, anonymously investigating the serial murder cases surrounding "bone embroidery" - mysterious writings embroidered on the chests of the deceased, involving family secrets, officialdom darkness and underground forces. As the suspenseful case progresses, a complex entanglement begins between Su Yunjin and Shen Zhizhi (a key figure five years ago and now an important member of the Governor's Office), entangled in love, betrayal and revenge.
