In the post-apocalyptic world, resources are desperately scarce. Even though the protagonist keeps to himself in a cave, he still has to worry about finding the supplies he needs to survive and grow crops. Clean water may be contaminated outside, suitable soil and fertilizer have to be searched for, and other survivors may occasionally covet the limited resources.
