The Zhang Family Daughter's Shameful Secrets

When Ye Qing was three, her mother, Zhang Qiuhua, envied the neighbors for having a new house. Wanting money to build one of her own, she pressured her husband, Ye Jianguo, into borrowing money and taking out a loan.

Zhang Qiuhua kept pushing for a second child, too, costing her husband his job and saddling them with a mountain of fines.

The family was so poor they could barely scrape by, and Zhang Qiuhua couldn't take it anymore.

"What's so great about being a teacher? You're dirt poor. You might as well go work down in a coal mine," she told him.

Ye Jianguo went. He died.

Zhang Qiuhua became a widow. Seeing her two daughters as burdens, she abandoned them and ran off with another man.

After that, there was no word from her.

Ye Qing grew up in other people's homes, raising her little sister, Ye Yi, as the two of them struggled through life... Just when things finally began to get better, Zhang Qiuhua came back.

She told Ye Qing, "I didn't do it on purpose. Your dad died, and I had to go on living..."

"I gave birth to you and raised you, so you have to be filial and obey me. I'm your mother."

Ye Qing sneered. She had given birth to them.

But had she raised them?

For some people, home is a home. For others, it's a prison.
