Transmigrated as a Poor Live-In Son-in-Law: Wife, Don’t Worry, We’ll Be Rich in No Time

[Feel-good story] [Son-in-law] [Get rich] [No System] [Single heroine] [Imperial examinations]

Lin Mo opens his eyes to find himself an unwanted son-in-law in ancient times. He wants to die.

His gambling-addict father sold him to the destitute Su family for thirty taels of silver. They slap the contract of sale in his face: if he can’t pass the licentiate exam in two months, he’s out! Even his newlywed wife will have to remarry!

And the worst part is, the original owner was such an idiot he couldn’t even recite the Three Character Classic, and the provincial exam is only two months away!

Just as he is in despair, his usually meek little wife suddenly locks the door and pulls a rouge-red note from the bottom of her dowry chest.

“Husband, Shu Yu Pavilion in the south of the city... I hear the ‘older sisters’ there love having young, handsome scholars keep them company over drinks and recite poems... They pay generously, and wages are settled daily...”

Lin Mo stares at the patched long robe she hands him.

Fine!

So what if he has to play the pretty boy? Even Li Bai was once a live-in son-in-law!

He copies Du Mu’s erotic poetry and sneaks into a brothel, only to run into the chief examiner in disguise at the Drunken Immortal House. Even more absurdly, the man slaps the table in praise: “This young man deserves to be the provincial top scholar!”

Later, at the imperial court, the newly crowned top scholar Lin Mo shocks the entire realm with a single memorial:

“I ask the court to abolish the status of registered courtesans. The first person to be freed should be my wife, Su Cailing.”
