In 1935, in the French Concession in Shanghai, antique dealer Qi Yunting found a bronze bell engraved with runes in a ghost market. That night, his shop was attacked by purple zombies. The down-and-out Taoist priest Zhang Taiyi came to the rescue and recognized that it was the lost magic weapon "Soul Bell" in Longhu Mountain. In order to find out the truth, the two met Su Muyu, a female doctor of folklore who had returned from studying abroad. Three unrelated strangers were forced to form a "Strange Society" to jointly deal with the ensuing supernatural crises.
