Spring Breezes Pass Like Strangers, and Now We Go Our Separate Ways

Five years after I married Jiang Yixuan, he died in battle.

His twin brother, Jiang Yifeng, rode through the night and returned with nothing but a broken saber. Kneeling before me, he said hoarsely:

"Sister-in-law, Big Brother... he gave his life for his country!"

Looking at the face identical to my husband's, grief overwhelmed me, and I threw up blood.

After that, I tried to join my husband in death. I tried drowning, hanging myself, and taking poison. I attempted suicide again and again, and was rescued every time.

My sister-in-law would always tell me with a beaming smile how her husband had made love to her the night before. When she saw that I had nothing to say, she would leave, cover her face, and spread the news everywhere: "Sister-in-law and Big Brother truly were devoted to each other. Everyone envies them."

Yes, we were devoted to each other indeed. So devoted that my husband spent his days and nights making love to my sister-in-law, while I kept trying to die for him.

It wasn't my husband who died, yet I was left to become a widow, consumed by grief.

So be it. I'll let them have each other. I'm getting married too, anyway.
