From the rotten smoke wafting out of the Longyou military camp, to the scorched earth where households were wiped out in the Sili village; from the hands of the peasant woman who clenched the scissors for food, to the pus and blood licked by the young emperor on the dragon throne. When hundreds of thousands of believers shouted "Huang Tian Dang Li" and rushed towards the officers and soldiers, Taiping seemed to hear his mother's dying words drifting in the wind and sand: "Stay alive... Don't starve to death... Be a good person..."
Now he holds a carving knife and carves the word "live" for the refugees one by one on the bamboo slips where the corpses are shrouded. The blade of the knife cut across the slips, and the crumbs flew like snow - very much like the half piece of cake crumbs my mother saved that year.

It's really beautiful. It's a bit like a poor man's life for two thousand years.
