By a stroke of fate, a group of young city dwellers who had set out to tour the mountains and rivers accidentally opened a barrier and entered the Eight Wilds of the Mountains and Seas. To find the last source of spiritual energy in this world, left behind by a “mysterious figure,” they decide to embark on an adventure.
The Four Symbols’ successors undergo trials. The heroine, Xing Yao, returns to the real world only to discover that it is on the verge of collapse, with disasters striking one after another. During a rescue operation, she meets the hero again, and the two unexpectedly uncover the secrets of the Heavenly Dimension Gate. Where did the spiritual energy once found on Earth go? Where did the immortals of ancient legend come from?
The Azure Dragon of the East commands the Thunder Tribulation; the White Tiger of the West wields the Metal Fiend; the Vermilion Bird of the South burns the Abyss of Parting Fire; and the Black Tortoise of the North guards the Dark Sea. Each of the Four Sacred Spirits harbors its own secrets.
To prevent the Ninefold Universe from being annihilated, the hero and heroine are forced to forge a life-and-death pact. When the twin Yin-Yang jades resonate beyond the Ninth Heaven, they realize they are no more than pieces on the Heavenly Dao’s chessboard. To break free of the formless, they must first sever the threads of fate; to protect all living beings, they must overturn the world. Is the love and hatred between them a calamity or a destined bond? Above the Nine Heavens, who is the one moving the pieces?
