The story is set in the prosperous Kaiyuan period of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. Chang'an City was the center of the world, with a prosperous economy and diverse cultures. Undercurrents surged between the court and the people, and political struggles and power changes occurred all the time. Chen Ke'er was born in a scholarly family in the south of the Yangtze River, but due to family changes, she was sent to Chang'an to seek refuge with relatives; Wu Jianjun was a guard of the imperial army who came from a poor family, and rose to prominence in the army with his extraordinary martial arts and resourcefulness. The two met under the tide of the times, went from misunderstanding to understanding each other, and experienced many tests together.
