Zhang Miyue slowly opened her eyes, her head splitting with pain, as if someone had struck her hard with a club. She tried to sit up, but her whole body was weak, and she didn't even have the strength to lift a hand.
“Yue'er is awake! Yue'er is awake!” a woman's voice cried beside her. The next moment, a tear-streaked face appeared before her. The woman looked to be in her twenties and wore coarse clothes. Though haggard, she was still beautiful.
Before Zhang Miyue could react, the woman pulled her into a tight embrace. “Yue'er, you scared your mother half to death! If anything had happened to you, I wouldn't have gone on living!”
Mother? What was going on? Zhang Miyue was bewildered. She tried to speak, but her throat was so dry it hurt. All she could manage was a few indistinct whimpers.
Just then, a middle-aged man strode in, his brow furrowed with worry. “How is Yue'er?”
“She woke up. That's all that matters.” The woman broke into a tearful smile, then turned to Zhang Miyue. “Yue'er, this is your father. Hurry and call him Dad.”
Zhang Miyue parted her lips and struggled to get out one word. “Dad...”
The middle-aged man's eyes reddened slightly. He reached out and stroked her head. “You're awake. That's all that matters.”
Zhang Miyue stared at the unfamiliar “parents” before her, her mind in chaos. She remembered watching a historical drama at home with her parents and younger brother when a blinding flash of white suddenly appeared. When she opened her eyes again, she was here. Could it be... that she had transmigrated? And had her whole family transmigrated with her?
