When the lively, boisterous spirit of a “madhouse” invades a quiet, old-fashioned courtyard house, a heartwarming and healing story full of comic mishaps begins.
Twenty-five-year-old construction worker Zhao Huzi moves into the courtyard house like a stone dropped into a peaceful lake, sending ripples through everyone’s lives. The longtime resident, Old Liu, can’t stand how noisy he is. Qian Fugui, a retired official, disapproves of his carefree ways and thinks he’s disrupting the courtyard’s peaceful order. Rejected by the others, Zhao Huzi feels as if he’s trapped in an invisible cage.
But then, things begin to change. With his kindness and warm heart, Zhao Huzi gradually melts the ice in everyone’s hearts. He fixes Qian Fugui’s television and puts an end to their feud; helps Sun Cuilian solve a problem with sourcing goods and wins her friendship; and teams up with Zhou Dadan, a timid braggart, to try starting a business. Their relationships shift from conflict to cooperation and companionship, and the courtyard house gradually fills with laughter.
