The Legend of Feng Tou Mountain

At the end of the Ming Dynasty, a severe drought struck Sichuan. Shu went eight months without rain, and every trade fell into decline. One-hundred-year-old Granny Ma claimed that the drought could only be broken if a pure young maiden climbed Mount Laoya on the night of the full moon and embroidered with song to summon the phoenix. Sixteen-year-old Liu Qing'er volunteered without hesitation to save her gravely ill father and her fellow villagers. Wearing her mother's old clothes, she climbed the barren mountain as the townsfolk watched, and embroidered a seven-colored phoenix beneath the moon. When she began to sing, a miracle occurred: a true phoenix arrived with a rainbow. Its tears became springs, and its tail feathers became mountains. Torrential rain followed, ending the century-long drought. Qing'er spent the rest of her life guarding the sacred spring, which became known as Phoenix Head Mountain. Her embroidery and the phoenix's feathers became the town's most treasured relics. This legend of courage and faith has been passed down from generation to generation ever since.
