[This book has none of the usual tropes: no transmigration, no being reborn, no golden finger]
[Heads-up: not a wish-fulfillment story; a more serious tone and a slow pace]
In the spring of the eighth year of Longxing in the Dasheng Dynasty, the Meng family arrives in the capital. The political situation is turbulent, and forces on all sides are poised to act.
Meng Yangling is an ordinary young woman from a family of fourth-rank officials. By a twist of fate, she enters the game, making her way from the palace to the world beyond with nothing but her keen mind and discerning eyes. In doing so, she writes the most celebrated empress’s tale in Dasheng history.
The history books record that Sheng Xuanzong and the empress had known each other since their humble beginnings. After Xuanzong ascended the throne, he honored her as empress, and the two ruled the country together, becoming the stuff of legend.
Meng Yangling crossed out the history books’ idle commentary, wrapped her arms around Xiao Mian’s neck, and said, “Why do the history books record only men’s achievements, leaving women as decoration? In my biography, I’ll write the true history of a woman in the inner chambers!”
Then she kissed Xiao Mian and teased him, “I wonder, Your Majesty, are you willing to be the decoration in my story?”
Xiao Mian took her jade-like hand and held it in his palm, answering tenderly, “I would gladly be more than decoration. I’d be Yangling’s vanguard and her charioteer.”
He gently turned her face toward him and sighed. “Ling’er, look at me more. Show me a little more affection...”
Yangling could only shake her head helplessly. Who could have guessed that Sheng Xuanzong, cold and heartless in the eyes of others and in the history books, would often act like a spoiled child around her...?
It's well written. I hope less people will support it. It's rare to see someone write this kind of thing in Tomato. I'd like to ask which one is the imaginary one. Is it clear that I'm not familiar with it?
Great article, good luck to the author!
