I Asked You to Put Food on the Table, and You Conquered the World

In his previous life, Dong Yuntao was a master's graduate in finance from a prestigious university. He joined one of the world's top five securities firms and managed a group of funds.

In this life, he transmigrates into a poor farming family during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period.

In the family, his older brother is somewhat mentally disabled, and his mother is ill. Both have lost some of their ability to work.

The family's only five mu of paddy fields cannot support everyone. They're trapped in a vicious cycle and a dead end, and sooner or later they will have to sell their land and children.

But Dong Yuntao refuses to give in. With a heart full of resentment and his older brother and sister's hopes resting on him, he starts from nothing, gradually gets the family enough to eat, makes them prosperous, and prepares to live a carefree life. Unfortunately, the times are turbulent and people are hard to read. Dong Yuntao has to take every aspect into account, so he becomes deeply involved in the affairs of the era.

After he transmigrates, the Dong family grows wealthy at a rapid pace and earns a far-reaching reputation. They never forget their roots and lead the whole village's farmers to lives free of worry over food and clothing. Everyone in the village plants high-quality rice, and their livestock multiply.

Later, through a twist of fate, he becomes responsible for coordinating supplies to the imperial army. With ample provisions and abundant grain, he also helps devise strategic plans, repeatedly coming up with brilliant schemes and earning the emperor's praise.

After winning military merit time and again, he is made a Duke of the State, then promoted to Prince of a Commandery and appointed one of the Three Excellencies. He oversees the country's canals, markets, agriculture, and taxes, bringing peace and prosperity to the people, who enjoy plenty of food and clothing. The emperor consults him on state affairs, repeatedly offers him the title of prince, and is repeatedly turned down on the grounds that only members of the imperial clan may be made princes. In the end, the emperor reluctantly grants him the imperial surname, makes his princely title hereditary in perpetuity, and establishes a shrine in his honor, proclaiming it throughout the realm.
