"The Mystery of the Canyon" tells the legendary story of Niu Yue, a scholar from Jianli, who discovered that half of the "Book of Mountains and Seas" was related to the compass pointing because his ancestral compass was hot, and thus embarked on a treasure hunting journey in the Enshi Grand Canyon.
Niu Yue entered the canyon carrying a compass and half of the "Book of Mountains and Seas". On the way, he met Wang Changlin, an old man with a hunchback, and learned about many mysterious legends and dangers here. After arriving in the mountain village, he discovered many mysterious rituals and abnormalities in the compass while staying there. At Yingzui Rock, he unexpectedly discovered rock paintings and caves. He met a mysterious old man in the cave, and fell while being chased by the old patriarch and others. Fortunately, he found some clues and the lost map on the stone platform at the bottom of the cliff, and learned the secret of the musk and the treasure.
After that, Niu Yue went through many tests in cellars, caves and other places, solved many mysteries, guarded Musk together with Old Man Wang, the old patriarch, Huwa and others, and also discovered the secret of the military pay of the Valley Guard. In Hankou Town, they dealt with the army and poachers. Niu Yue and others finally succeeded in finding the military pay of Huya Mountain with their wisdom and courage. According to the rules of the old Orion, General Niu Yue distributed his salary reasonably, leaving part to the mountains and forests, part to the common people, and part to passing on the culture.
In this adventure, Niu Yue grew from an outsider treasure hunter to the inheritor of the old Orion rules. He deeply realized that the real treasure is not gold and silver, but the rules engraved in the bones and blood of the older generations, and the wisdom of living in harmony with nature.
