Prince Anling was ruthless and vicious. He rebelled and seized the throne, but thankfully Heaven intervened, and the villain was eliminated, preserving the Great Ze Kingdom. This is an indisputable historical fact.
Jiang Qing was born into a family of historians. One day, however, she found an unofficial history among her grandfather’s belongings, and its account was vastly different from the accepted record: Prince Anling had devoted his life to the people and dreamed of ruling for the good of all. But because people suspected his achievements overshadowed the throne, he ultimately died beneath a blade for the sake of the realm.
Unofficial histories don’t stand up to scrutiny, especially when they concern someone as notorious as Prince Anling. Jiang Qing had no intention of looking into it. She never expected that one day she would actually meet this infamous traitor, and that he would save her!
Though terrified of his ruthlessness, Jiang Qing had no choice but to follow him back to his residence if she wanted to survive.
The next time she saw him, he had returned victorious. Hearing of his triumph, the emperor was delighted and asked what reward the prince wanted.
“This subject has a woman in his household. I wish to seek justice on her behalf.”
The prime minister was furious. “You actually want this old man to apologize to a courtesan for your sake?”
Shen Xuan, who had always been calm and calculating, responded with uncharacteristic firmness: “All I know is that she belongs to Prince Anling’s household.”
