Jiang He, a master's graduate in agriculture from the 21st century, wakes up in the early 1990s as an unlucky bride in a remote mountain village. On their wedding night, her educated-youth groom, Lu Chen, calls her "uncouth" and declares he'll divorce her as soon as he gets the chance to return to the city. The original owner was so timid and insecure that she swallowed her grievances in silence, but Jiang He slaps her marriage certificate down on the table. "Fine, we can divorce, but first give me half a stack of bricks from the ring beam of that mud-brick house. I don't want to be left sleeping in a cowshed and feeding mosquitoes after you go back to the city!"
