The Great Yin dynasty is in turmoil. Jiang Linyuan, the orphaned heir to the former dynasty's throne, burns with the desire to restore his kingdom. He boldly enters the Prince Regent's residence alone, intent on killing Lu Jingheng to avenge his fallen country.
But fate has other plans. His assassination attempt fails, and because his face bears a striking resemblance to Shen Qingci, Lu Jingheng's one true love, he is mercilessly imprisoned in a lightless dungeon. Lu Jingheng grips his chin, forces him to drink poisoned wine, and sneers, “Those eyes of yours do look a little like Qingci's.” Yet this act triggers a mysterious twin-bonding Gu, and from that moment on, the two men share their senses.
Afterward, Jiang Linyuan faces one ordeal after another. During a scorching medicinal bath, the Gu poison causes a phoenix mark to appear on his body. While exploring the study, he discovers that a secret map to the former dynasty's treasure is hidden behind a painting. He attends a banquet dressed as a woman, only for assassins to attack; Lu Jingheng takes a toxic blow protecting him, and a mysterious force seems to be pulling the strings behind it all.
As the story unfolds, the truth behind the twin-bonding Gu slowly comes to light. The Gu poison has no cure, and after faking his death and escaping, Jiang Linyuan is captured again. The two men's identities and fates keep turning upside down. When the poison is finally lifted, Lu Jingheng is even willing to give Jiang Linyuan part of his heart. “I offer you half my bloodline as a betrothal gift. Please... love me once more.” His words stir Jiang Linyuan's heart. Shen Qingci's tragic death, the treasure beneath the frozen lake, and the bond they shared in a past life are also revealed one by one.
