My Love at First Sight with Medicine

The first time Cheng Weiyi, the emergency department's “ice-cold demon,” met Ji Houqing, the cardiothoracic surgeon known as “Mr. Perfect,” was at three in the morning in a blood-soaked resuscitation room. She decisively performed a needle decompression and saved a patient with a collapsed lung; he accurately spotted the risk of a drug allergy. In a battle between life and death, two proud hearts collided for the first time.

When the hospital began building a chest pain center, these rivals, whose medical philosophies were worlds apart, were forced to work together. She charged into the fray on instinct and experience; he proceeded cautiously, guided by data and protocols. From treating children with complex congenital heart defects to responding to a major crowd crush, they fought to wrest lives from death at the operating table, while slowly growing closer amid their clashes.

But when Cheng Weiyi received an anonymous, expensive gift, Ji Houqing's ex-girlfriend suddenly appeared, and Deputy Hospital Director Zhou Ming's workplace harassment escalated into dangerous threats, they realized that the hardest case wasn't congenital heart disease, and the most perilous rescue wasn't in the emergency room. The real question was whether, with their battered hearts laid bare, they had the courage to take up the scalpel of love for each other.

“In medicine, we argue over who's right. In love, I only want to be the one who gives in.”

When an invitation from Doctors Without Borders landed on the table, Ji Houqing stopped Cheng Weiyi at the airport as she was about to fly to Africa. He handed her a diamond ring and a joint medical practice license. “This time, I'll follow where you lead.”
