When the pixelated worlds of post-2000s childhood cartoons suddenly collapse, characters from different dimensions, including Hongmao, Huo Linfei, Sun Wukong, and Nangong Wentian, are swept into a data maelstrom. Mechanical guards woven from purple streams of data are devouring the worlds. Their hidden master, the “Data Devourer,” aims to erase every trace of these cartoons by making them forgotten, because humanity’s collective memories are the purest source of energy in this universe.
There is no protagonist’s plot armor. Hongmao’s Changhong Sword energy clashes with the gleaming mechs of Super Beast Force in the pixelated rifts. Shuke and Beita’s helicopter soars past the radiance of the Sky Crystal from Divine Weapon Little General, and even the golden kitchen tools from The Little Master of Chinese Cuisine become an energy core. They discover that the only weapon against oblivion is to awaken every classic line, every heated battle, and every tearful moment tucked away in the audience’s memories.
But the price is cruel: Sally’s digitized body grows transparent in Hongmao’s arms, the stars of Xingyou Ji are going dark, and the cries for help from Zhonghua Xiaozi grow fainter by the moment. When all the characters raise their weapons, they are not only heroes of their own worlds, but also a “memory resonance” protecting the childhoods of millions. Because on the other side of the data stream, every forgotten character was once a light in someone’s eyes.
Very beautiful,
