At the beginning of the story, Ling Chen, an outer disciple of the Qingyun Sect, was called a "waste" due to his low cultivation level (the third level of body refining). While fighting for the "Condensing Yuan Grass", he was seriously injured by his fellow sect's "little overlord" Shi Hao (the fifth level of body refining) and was on the verge of death.
