A Cry Beneath an Ordinary Exterior

This story is based on real-life experiences and follows Chen Jingchen, vividly portraying his life from childhood to the workplace. Born into an ordinary family, Chen grows up with his parents’ heartfelt hope that he will make something of himself. As an adult, he becomes trapped in the grind of a routine life. His job is dull, his pay meager, and he must cope not only with the strain of his parents growing older, but also with the pain of living apart from his partner for years. At work, he suffers one setback after another, unable to fulfill his ambitions. Each hardship weighs on him like another shackle, until he can barely bear the load.

Yet Chen Jingchen refuses to bow to fate. He struggles against the daily grind and hardships of life while carefully protecting the little family he and his partner have built. Together, they tackle one challenge after another and work toward a future for the two of them. But Chen feels he has let his partner, Li Shuyu, down terribly. They have spent years apart, and he has not been there by her side, missing out on so many happy moments together. Chen knows how painful this life is, but as an ordinary person, he feels powerless to change it. Fortunately, after enduring the trials of a long-distance relationship, they finally end up together.

With delicate prose, the story portrays ordinary people struggling and awakening amid the tides of the times. It has no earth-shattering plot twists, yet like wild grass, it reveals the tenacious spirit of putting down roots and reaching for the sky. It is a song of praise for life, dedicated to everyone who refuses to settle for an ordinary existence and dares to pursue their dreams.
