Falling Plum Blossoms

I buried my best friend beneath a reed bed.

We grew up together, understood each other completely, and were inseparable. We knew each other better than anyone in the world.

Her name was Xiaomei. Like a plum blossom, she bloomed bravely in the bitter cold, hope always shining in her eyes.

My name was Xiaomei too, but with the character for bad luck. I had been despised since birth and was never noticed by anyone.

But at least she loved me.

For her, I buried her beneath the reeds and went to welcome spring.
