Tales of the Undercurrents in Bianjing

After three hundred years of turmoil, the Great Yu Dynasty is on the brink of collapse. At court, corrupt officials abuse their power, form factions for personal gain, and have poisoned the imperial examinations. Buying and selling official posts has become commonplace. Among the people, taxes are crushing, famine strikes again and again, and the common folk are left homeless, with the dead lying in heaps. To the north, the Rong tribes grow ever stronger, repeatedly raiding the border, burning, killing, and looting as the Great Yu armies suffer defeat after defeat. The current emperor is weak by nature and lost in pleasure. He pays no heed to state affairs, leaving corrupt officials to manipulate him...

Amid this perilous situation, forces stir beneath the surface. Remnants of the former dynasty are poised to make their move, while heroes of the martial world emerge one after another, each seeking a foothold in these troubled times.
