"A Crossbowman's War Diary"
Spring, April 3, 1082, Salas
A young man came to Sharas Port and said he was a general. He was wearing a gray robe and casually threw out hundreds of gold coins as settlement fees and took away many idle young men in the port.
Summer, June 17, 1082, Strange Fishing Village
We followed the general to kill pirates for a day, and many people died. In the evening, the general asked us why we followed him to serve as soldiers.
I think aristocratic children like him always feel that we serve as soldiers for many noble reasons besides money.
There are so many excuses. The general scattered the gold coins on the ground and we were too late to grab them. There is no reason not to follow.
But besides money, there must be some other reasons. Salas is a southern port, but there is no snow all year round.
I want to see snow.
My father and mother are old, and I can't earn a few gold coins myself. I can't afford a good horse that can take me to the north to see the snow, and I don't have the time to go to the north.
If I had to add a reason to join the army behind money, I think it would be to go north to see the snow.
The snow is white and melts as soon as you grab it.
