Two days before the carp leaped through the Dragon Gate, my husband, the Carp God, reported two other candidates for ascension to the Heavenly Emperor.
One was our son. The other was his beloved, Jade Maiden.
The depths were bitterly cold. He couldn't let our son spend ten thousand years keeping watch in the icy sea, just as he had.
As for Jade Maiden, he had promised her a life of peace and security long ago.
And as the wife who had been by his side for a thousand years, with my meager cultivation, I was supposed to make room for their family and stop clinging to him.
"Luo Li, the road to the Heavenly Court is long. Once I've settled in, I'll come back with our son and take you away from the depths."
He tried to comfort me, but my heart had already shattered.
What the Carp God didn't know was that although I had been with him for a thousand years and lived in the depths, I wasn't one of the carp clan.
I was a true dragon.
I can hardly wait to see the looks on their faces when they spot me beside the Heavenly Emperor's throne.
