The story takes place during the Anti-Japanese War.
Heihe, a small town located on the Sino-Soviet border, was betrayed by traitors and the CCP's underground organization suffered devastating damage. A group of communists and patriots with firm revolutionary beliefs and patriotic enthusiasm, under the leadership of the Party Committee of the Anti-Japanese Allied Forces Teaching Brigade who retreated to the Soviet Union for training, established a combat group isolated behind enemy lines called "Operation Northern Lights."
In the harsh fighting environment, the "Operation Northern Lights" team dealt a heavy blow to the enemy and effectively preserved itself. It performed earth-shattering activities such as sending patriotic young people into the Soviet Union, punishing traitors, eliminating the vicious bandit Captain Toba, ambushing Lieutenant General Hattori, and collecting important military intelligence of the Japanese and puppets.
