I never imagined I would be reborn this way.
One moment, I was lying in a pool of blood, staring at Yang Tianqi’s vicious face. The next, I was back in the summer after the college entrance exams. But what surprised me even more was that this time, I’d accidentally formed a pact with a fox spirit.
“Your ancestors were quite remarkable, kid.” The yellow weasel squatted on my desk with its legs crossed, looking completely at ease.
I rubbed my temples, feeling as if my whole worldview had been turned upside down. The Lu family was a reclusive clan? What a joke! My family lived in a rundown apartment on the outskirts of town, and we could barely afford the maintenance fees.
“Don’t believe me?” The fox spirit flicked its tail. “Take a look at this.”
With a wave of its paw, it pointed to the yellowed painting on the living room wall, the item my grandmother had treasured most before she died. But when I looked closely, my jaw nearly hit the floor.
The painting was glowing!
“The Mountains and Rivers State-Steering Map?” I read the tiny characters on the scroll, my voice trembling. “Isn’t that something from mythology?”
The fox spirit scoffed. “You think the barriers between the Six Realms breaking down is a joke? The human world is crawling with ghosts, monsters are everywhere, and Rakshasas from other worlds are watching us like hawks. The fate of Huaguo is partly your responsibility too, kid!”
I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down. Since Heaven had given me a second chance at life and this opportunity, I had to make the most of it.
The post-apocalyptic imagination is well written and feels quite refreshing.
