[Synopsis]
Twenty-five-year-old trainee lawyer Lin Xiaoman reunites with her childhood friend Zhou Yanzhi in Qingmei Lane, which is about to be demolished. They gaze at each other through the glass wall of the law firm, both hiding the unspoken crushes they've harbored for ten years. Zhou Yanzhi is known in the industry as an “undefeated lawyer.” He seems aloof and composed, but keeps in his desk drawer the pens, hair ties, and sticky notes she has given him since she was ten. Lin Xiaoman is cheerful and unafraid to love. When she starts her new job, she discovers that the neighborly older boy who quietly leaves the lights on for her, brings her sweet-and-sour ribs, and shelters her with an umbrella in the pouring rain has been turning his devotion into part of her everyday life all along. He secretly practices cooking dishes she casually mentioned, stays up until dawn organizing case law on the eve of her trial, and turns bright red at the ears when she pulls out an old photo album.
At work, they are both rivals and allies. They trade clever blows while representing opposing sides in cases and stay up late together providing free legal aid, drawing closer through their professional skills and thoughtful gestures. There are no misunderstandings or painful push-and-pull, only a tin box tucked into a hollow in a cherry tree, a journal filled with every detail of her life, and a little bear keychain that never leaves his suit pocket. Bit by bit, the truth of their mutual crush comes together. When the cherry blossoms of Qingmei Lane flutter through the air once more, he finally says the words he has kept inside for fifteen years: “I love you.” And she has already held on to the flutter of her heart across a decade, in every warm thing he has placed in her hands.
A pure-love story about “time and devotion” unfolds amid law firm case files and courtroom clashes. It turns out that the best confession is a presence that never once abandons you through the years.
