Just after the Yongzheng Emperor dies in the official history, as Prince Bao Hongli is about to ascend the throne, a deity pulls the two of them into the TV drama Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace. There, he becomes the spirit behind the drama’s Qianlong Emperor and guides him toward becoming a capable ruler.
