After the Draw Picked the Emperor’s Consort, My Childhood Sweetheart Regretted It and Cried

My father wanted to make me heir to the throne. The cabinet suggested that we make it a double celebration and appoint my crown princess on the same day.

Faced with four noble young ladies selected by the cabinet, I chose to draw lots.

In my previous life, I chose without hesitation Jiang Yao, the legitimate daughter of the Duke’s household, whom I had long admired.

Only after we married did I learn that she had a beloved, a man said to be brilliant enough to become the top scholar. To stay by her side, he had willingly changed his name and castrated himself to enter the palace.

For years after our wedding, whenever she saw him, her heart would twist with pain.

She believed I had used my power to force him to become a eunuch, robbing them of the chance to be husband and wife.

To get revenge, she secretly poisoned me, then joined her beloved in selling the capital’s defense plans. The Great Yu dynasty fell, and I was thrown in prison.

When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the day the crown princess was to be chosen.

As the cabinet erupted in an uproar, I drew Yelü Dan, a foreign princess sent to cement an alliance, whose clan had the weakest foundation and whose temper was the worst.

But on the day the imperial edict was issued, Jiang Yao broke down.
