To find her younger brother, who was abducted by the insectoids, Xingyao is forced to ally with a hardened military officer and plunge into the vortex at the heart of the Federation. The immortality conspiracy of Genesis Technology, the cold muzzles of BTA, and the mad whispers of the Core of Shadows close in from every side. When the lingering will of the Insectoid Queen kindles a purifying flame in her mind, Xingyao stands at the precipice of a civilization torn in two: on one side is the human world that gave birth to her, and on the other is the swarm that sees her as its salvation.
She will wield the insectoids' scythes and wear the faint glow of stardust, building a bridge between species amid the fires of war. But the price is becoming a "Resonant," neither human nor insectoid, while whispers still sing for her at the edge of the universe.
