The tropes are familiar, but the setup is not. One night before his final exams, Yang Can is sucked through a portal into a world of giant trees. The world’s Sixth Avenue chooses him, and with no parking fees to pay, he decides to keep his head down, grow stronger, and cultivate immortality. Thus begins his life as the ultimate underdog.
Here, he meets Si Tu Ya and Si Tu Yu, two fellow transmigrants from Blue Star. During a treasure hunt, the three are ambushed by members of a branch family of the Wu clan. Badly wounded, they manage to escape. Meanwhile, Yang Can’s parents, who transmigrated with him, are hunted by the Wu clan and have no choice but to sacrifice themselves, entering the Banner of Ten Thousand Souls. The compassionate Yang Can assures everyone it’s fine: he just has to wipe out the whole clan.
From then on, Yang Can devotes himself to bringing his parents back to life.
Three years later: “Yang Can, if you kill us, the main branch of our clan will make you wish you were dead!”
A few years later: “You insignificant worm! How dare you kill members of the Wu clan? Die!”
More than a decade later: “Young man! You’ve gone too far! The day our clan leader emerges from seclusion will be the day you die!”
A few decades later: “Fellow Daoist Yang, how about I marry my daughter to you and we put this matter behind us?”
