A storyteller stood onstage before a crowd of listeners and loudly proclaimed: “The Gu family of the capital! Old Master Gu was gravely ill, yet even on his deathbed, he still wanted to take a beautiful concubine. But alas, he was not fated to enjoy her! The old master dropped dead right there in the wedding hall before his new concubine could even enter the household!
“The servants at the Gu residence all say that the concubine was possessed by a fox spirit, which stole Old Master Gu’s life away!
“Rumors have even spread that the eldest young master of the Gu family has fallen under that fox spirit’s spell too. He insists on marrying no one but him, and the old madam fainted on the spot from the shock!”
The listeners below all looked disgusted. How could there be such a menace in the world...
And yet, at the residence of the Grand Tutor himself, the so-called fox spirit was surrounded by noblewomen of the capital, all vying to win his favor.
