Ning Yue (Cai Wenjing), a public-interest lawyer, discovers five years into her marriage that her husband Hu Cheng's (Feng Shaofeng) "perfect attentiveness" is actually a form of pathological control. After recognizing the truth, she resolves to break free from the shackles of marriage. As she works toward independence, she receives help from Qin Can, an upright lawyer. But Hu Cheng, whose need for control is overwhelming, cannot tolerate her defiance, and a battle over freedom and control begins within their marriage. Ning Yue must not only escape this twisted relationship, but also find her true self again.
