Ling Yu was once a carefree young man, but in a single night his family was wiped out, leaving him a lone wolf bent on revenge. While fleeing, he unexpectedly awakened the legendary Reverse Scale bloodline and a Chaos Spirit Root. Burdened by a blood feud and the shocking mystery behind his family’s destruction, he was forced onto a perilous path known as the "Path of Defiance," where death awaited at every turn.
Along this path, he met Ye Xuan, whose origins were equally mysterious and who bore the responsibility of protecting others. From their initial suspicion and mutual exploitation, the two grew to share life and death, standing side by side as they faced the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion’s relentless pursuit, the Netherworld Hall’s deadly assassinations, and the "Gate of Ten Thousand Worlds’ Return to the Void," hidden deep within the mists of history. It ensnared countless factions and could unleash a calamity across the heavens.
The frozen wastelands of the northern frontier, a forgotten ancient battlefield, a forbidden place where the Dragon Clan lay buried... They ventured into one deadly situation after another, uncovering the truth layer by layer. They discovered that the so-called "family massacre" was a bloody deception orchestrated by their own kin, with the world itself as a chessboard. The so-called "Path of Defiance" was a brutal trial, long predetermined to select the heir to the role of "Gatekeeper." Their bloodlines, Reverse Scale and Ice Soul, were the very "keys" that could open that "Gate," or stop it from opening.
This is not one person’s epic of revenge, but the tale of a group of people struggling to break free of fate. Amid the celestial chess game, they fight for a chance to survive, for themselves, for those they love, and for all living beings.
