Fleeing famine + golden finger + the northwest + the Loess Plateau + a lightly ensemble-focused story
Gou Huahua's family transmigrates, only to run into a terrible drought. They have no choice but to cross the Yellow River and flee to the northwest, where they put down roots and farm.
Along the way, there's earthquake and plague: natural disasters and man-made calamities.
Gou Huahua's father, Gou Daniu, puts on the airs of a cultured scholar who passed the county exam, but he's crude and uncouth in truth, leading the villagers on all sorts of escapades and getting them into trouble.
Gou Huahua and her mother, Song Cui'e, practice Western and traditional Chinese medicine respectively. Combining their skills, they treat the sick and save lives along the way.
Gou Huahua's maternal uncle, Song Jiancai, is a blacksmith and a tough-as-nails man. He even volunteers to be the team's mess-hall supervisor.
Where did Gou Huahua's original family go? Of course, they went to the modern era.
Modern life is good, but the years aren't peaceful. There are no natural disasters, only “human calamities.”
Gou Danian and his wife bring decades of ancient farming experience with them. They get an idea and immediately set to work, wrecking this and then that. Gou fails again and again, only to try again after every failure. As for whether the crops will survive, Gou Danian says, “Only the strong can survive under my care.”
Gou Jingyu helps her parents create a short-video account, but it turns out to be fraught with danger: sometimes the account gets banned, sometimes they're attacked online, and sometimes a fortune falls right into their laps.
The novel is okay, but the names of the characters sound too awkward.
