Turned Into a Sieve

Transmigration stories are all lies.

There’s no domineering prince falling in love with you, no golden finger that lets you crush everyone in your path, and certainly no fairy tale about an “independent woman turning her life around in ancient times,” especially when you transmigrate into the body of a woman in the Great Yong.

Lin Yan, a history graduate student, understands on her very first day after transmigrating:

Other people become consorts or princesses. You become a “short-haired monster,” with a lower chance of survival than the old ox at home.

Other people use modern knowledge to invent things and make a fortune. You teach peasant women to “wash their hands to prevent epidemics,” and they shove you into the mud, cursing you for “wishing people dead.”

Other people meet a male lead who is “their only light.” You meet Shen Yanzhi, a scholar in a blue robe.

He crouches on the ground listening as you explain “equality between men and women,” his eyes shining like stars.

Then he turns around and burns what you wrote about “there being nothing wrong with women learning to read,” saying, “Know your place. Don’t cause me trouble.”

Those face-slapping wish-fulfillment stories and “love that saves you” that you’ve grown tired of?

In this story, they’re riddled with holes, leaking away until only the bloody truth remains:

What you call “cleverness” is “unwomanly conduct.”

What you insist is “right and wrong” is “asking for death.”

The people you risk your life trying to save will eventually kneel down and advise you, “You’re a woman. Just put up with it and it’ll pass. Isn’t every family like this?”

Warning:

This isn’t transmigration. It strips away the underwear of transmigration stories and shows you what’s underneath.

No thrills, no male lead to save you, only a modern soul slowly drowning in the mud of the Song dynasty, choking as the water rises to her nose and mouth.
