Sorry, Dr. Zhou, I’m Already Married

The day I returned to the country, a staff member told me there was a problem with my checked luggage. They led me into a room carpeted with red roses. Blushing, Zhou Xiaoxiao held out her ring finger and slipped a diamond ring into my hand, her eyes full of affection. The Zhou family all cheered, urging me to put the ring on Zhou Xiaoxiao’s finger. Everyone thought I would marry her without hesitation, crying all the while. After all, Zhou Xiaoxiao was the goddess I’d spent five years desperately trying to win over. But they’d all forgotten. At my promotion assessment three years ago, Zhou Xiaoxiao accused me of plagiarizing her senior’s paper and reported that my drinking had caused a medical accident. I was thrown out of the hospital like a dog, then beaten up by the patient’s family, who had rushed over after hearing the news. With nowhere else to turn, I had no choice but to leave the country and make a living abroad. But now, Old Master Zhou told me: “After you left, Xiaoxiao spent all her savings resolving the medical accident for you. She’s been waiting for you to come back. All these years, she’s held your photo and cried.” I said nothing. I only clenched the marriage certificate in my pocket.
