Chen Ming, an ordinary employee of the Shanghai Municipal Archives, accidentally discovered a black-and-white photo taken in the summer of 1979 hidden in a file belonging to former female textile worker Xu Li (File No. Shanghai File 78-0341) while sorting out old files. On the back of the photo was written "On the Bund Pier 3. Looking north." This deliberately hidden photo and mysterious handwriting broke Chen Ming's peaceful and boring life and aroused his strong curiosity. Through Chen Ming's exploration, a dusty personal past is uncovered, touching on the intertwining of ordinary people's lives, dreams and the background of the times in a specific historical period.
