Chen Ming, an ordinary employee at the Shanghai Municipal Archives, accidentally discovers a black-and-white photo taken in the summer of 1979 while sorting through old records. It is hidden in the file of Xu Li, a former textile worker (file number Shanghai Archives 78-0341). Written on the back are the words: “At Pier Three on the Bund. Looking north.” The deliberately concealed photo and its mysterious inscription disrupt Chen Ming's quiet, monotonous life and awaken his intense curiosity. As he investigates, he uncovers a forgotten personal history, touching on the way ordinary people's lives and dreams intertwine with the backdrop of a particular historical era.
