Original title: In the Misty Green Grass
Xiao Cao wants to be a good constable, but the master she apprentices herself to is utterly unreliable!
Duan Shiyi always says, “Xiao Cao, go on ahead. I'll cover you.”
She believes him every time, and every time she goes on ahead, she finds either a pit or a dog waiting for her!
Even when she's left battered, furious, and gritting her teeth, she still believes that son of a bitch, because Duan Shiyi says he'll make her the greatest constable there is.
A great constable solves wrongful convictions, uncovers the truth, and dares to turn her blade against the powerful. Just like that bastard Duan Shiyi: he hits whoever he wants and flirts with whoever he wants!
Duan Shiyi says, “This year, I can win the Six Fan Gate Award for Outstanding Contribution.”
“For seducing all the fallen, clueless women along both banks of Chang'an's Rouge River?” Xiao Cao rolls her eyes.
“No.” Duan Shiyi says gravely, “For sacrificing myself to take care of you.”
A beauty stained with blood, a hero whose hopes are doomed, and the sorrow of meeting those one must resent and parting from those one loves. The Six Fan Gate archives are filled with wrongful convictions and elusive truths.
She came to uncover the truth behind the massacre of her family years ago. Even if she is chased by dogs, bitten by wolves, or targeted for assassination, she wants to know the truth at last.
But just as the truth is about to come to light, someone close to her reaches out and covers her eyes.
“Xiao Cao, just this once, can we stop investigating?”
