Long ago, modern civilization's unchecked development pushed the exploitation of Earth's resources to its limits. Weapons of mass destruction ran rampant, while environmental pollution, resource depletion, and other problems followed one after another, ultimately triggering a global catastrophe. Earth entered a long ice age, and, as in the extinction of the dinosaurs, nearly all life vanished. After an unknown number of eons, the ice melted and new life emerged. Human civilization began anew. But this time, people discovered fragments of ancient Chinese characters left behind from prehistory. Carved onto weapons and combined with mysterious energy stones, they could unleash immense power. Thus began the age of spirit runes.
