This novel is a historical suspense novel with "Ding Si Inkstone" as its core. Through the narrative structure of three interweaving time and space, it shows the legendary fate of a mysterious ancient inkstone spanning hundreds of years.
Taking the three historical nodes of Dingsi's restoration in 1917, Dingsi's college entrance examination resumption in 1977, and Dingsi's day in 2025 as time anchors, a narrative time and space spanning a century is constructed. Revolving around a mysterious ancient inkstone, the grievances and resentments of three eras, including the warlords' melee, the Cultural Revolution's destruction of the Four Olds, and the restoration of contemporary cultural relics, are connected in series.
The protagonist Jiang Shuyan is a contemporary cultural relic restorer who has the special ability to see historical afterimages; the protagonist Fu Ziyan in the Republic of China storyline is a disciple of the last imperial master and masters the secret technique of restoring ancient inkstones; successive heirs of the mysterious organization "Xuanjia Guard" guard the shocking secrets behind the ancient inkstones.
Through the circulation of ancient inkstones, the eternal game between "material carrier of historical memory" and "selective forgetting of collective memory" is explored, revealing the essence of civilization inheritance behind the restoration of cultural relics.
