A call to the police about a civil dispute on a stormy night draws rookie officer Qi Yiming into a supernatural nightmare.
The brawlers in a KTV private room remain frozen for three hours on the security footage. The drunken woman brought in for mediation develops a bizarre copy of the "Midnight Operating Rules" beneath her skin. And a case file that should have been destroyed turns up intact on his desk the next morning.
"Welcome to Bureau 109." A man in a Zhongshan suit shows him his credentials. "Starting today, you're in charge of cases that 'shouldn't exist.'"
Here, rules are the law of survival. The elevator must never stop on the thirteenth floor, or it will take you to the nonexistent "Mirror Branch."
You must carry a red flashlight on midnight patrol, but never turn it on.
All files must be written in pen, because ink absorbs lies...
Qi Yiming soon discovers that every case he handles is connected to an even deeper horror. And when he opens the blood-written "Containment Files," the last page bears his own badge number, followed by a line of small print:
"Cognitively contaminated: Qi Yiming. Estimated containment failure date: December 12, 2045." (Data redacted)
