The story takes place during the Anti-Japanese War. After the "July 7th Incident" in 1937, the Japanese army fully invaded China, and the war quickly spread to the north and south of China. The North China Plain became one of the important battlefields of the Anti-Japanese War. The Japanese army attempted to further realize its ambition to annex China by controlling this vast land. On this land, there is not only frontal resistance from the Kuomintang troops, but also the Eighth Route Army and guerrillas led by the Communist Party carrying out arduous struggles behind enemy lines.
In a small town called Qingping Town, it is located in the hinterland of the North China Plain. It is a transportation hub connecting several important surrounding towns, and its strategic location is very important. In order to consolidate its rule, the Japanese army built a large number of strongholds and bunkers in Qingping Town and surrounding areas, and brutally ruled and plundered the local people. At the same time, anti-Japanese forces were constantly accumulating and developing, and underground organizations of the Communist Party were actively active in secret, organizing the masses and preparing for the anti-Japanese struggle. After the Kuomintang army suffered heavy losses from the Japanese army, some scattered troops also persisted in resisting in the surrounding mountainous areas, sometimes cooperating with the local anti-Japanese armed forces, and sometimes fighting independently.
