With a whoosh, a beam of light came down.
“Who’s there? Don’t you have anything better to do? How much is a light this bright adding to the electric bill?”
Qian Xingjiu was floating in midair. She raised a hand to shield her eyes and peered through her fingers. Just as she finally got used to the light and opened her eyes, another beam of white light shot straight at her. “Oh, come on, again?!” This happened over and over until her feet finally touched the ground. Before her stretched a vast green meadow.
“Have I come to an animated world? I know, I must be dreaming.” After saying this, she tried to wake herself up, but no matter what she did, she couldn’t.
“Huh? What’s this, forcing romance on me now? I refuse to believe you can keep me trapped here.” She raised her hand and slapped herself across the face.
“Smack!”
“Ahhh! Sob, sob! Waaaah! Why does it hurt so much? This is killing me!” She rubbed her face, utterly distraught. She had dared to hit herself so hard because dreams weren’t supposed to hurt. Wait, hurt? How could anything hurt in a dream? Confused, she walked forward and spotted an unfathomably deep chasm not far away. “It’s that deep? Maybe if I jump, I’ll wake up. This place is beautiful, but way too quiet. I can’t stand this cold shoulder, so I’m leaving first. Off I go!”
“Wait, benefactor.”
“Hm? I think I heard Buddha calling me. Must be my imagination.” Halfway down, Qian Xingjiu was suddenly caught around the waist by a thick, black, furry rope and hauled upward. “What? Who’s there? Don’t play dirty!”
