Brave Men March to Sichuan, No Cowards Beneath the Banner of Death

When the War of Resistance Against Japan erupted in full force, a million Sichuan soldiers marched out of Sichuan to fight the Japanese. Wang Jian Tang, a Sichuan soldier, received a flag from his father, Wang Zhe Cheng, bearing the single character "Death." On the right, it read: "I do not wish for you to serve me filial devotion at my side. I only wish for you to give your loyalty to the nation." On the left, it read: "With the nation in peril and the Japanese invaders snarling, the rise and fall of the country is a duty shared by every man. I wished to serve, but I am past the age. Thankfully, I have a son, who has volunteered of his own accord. I give you this flag to carry with you at all times. Wipe your blood with it when wounded, and let it wrap your corpse in death. Press bravely forward, and never forget your duty." Glorious Sichuan Army! Glorious Chinese soldiers who fought the Japanese!
