The Hunter Raises His Husband in the Deep Mountains

Heavy snow fell this year, collapsing many houses in Luohe Town and most of the homes in Luohe Village. In the freezing weather, with food running short, many elderly people and children were buried beneath the snow. Ji Qingyan's family joined the villagers in braving the cold to reach Qing shan City, the prefectural capital. Faced with the refugees, the authorities handed out thin porridge twice a day. Outside the city, the refugees fought every day over other people's belongings and food. In the midst of the blizzard, Ji Qingyan's family wanted to abandon him. Wearing thin, old clothes, he was purple with cold and had gone hungry for a long time. Just before he fainted from hunger, he saw a tall man in a straw rain cape and bamboo hat approach him, his face impossible to make out. He heard his family sell him for three taels of silver, and in that moment, he suddenly thought that maybe being sold wasn't so bad.
