Legends of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms

[The Five Dynasties in Conflict + The Decline of the Tang Court + Warlords Dividing the Realm + Surviving in a Chaotic Age] From the late Tang to the early Song, dozens of military regimes rose and fell across China. Five dynasties successively ruled the central plains: Later Liang, Later Tang, Later Jin, Later Han, and Later Zhou. Alongside them were the Ten Kingdoms, states that vied for control of the central plains, proclaimed kings or emperors, and alternately allied with or broke away from the five dynasties: Wu, Chu, Min, Southern Tang, Former Shu, Later Shu, Southern Han, Northern Han, Wuyue, and Jingnan. They fought, slaughtered, annexed, splintered, rose, and fell, creating an extraordinarily complex and constantly shifting landscape of dynastic succession and conflict among the Ten Kingdoms. Grudges between military regimes, power struggles between rulers and ministers within each state, and deception among powerful officials made political transitions turbulent and the situation change by the moment. Complex historical events and a multitude of historical figures come together to form one vivid, lifelike, and unpredictable tale after another.
