When Zhou Yao opened his eyes, the dazzling sunlight was shining on his face through the gaps in the leaves. "This is... A Pokédex?" He murmured to himself, his voice appearing particularly clear in the silent forest.
Memories came flooding back. Yesterday was his twenty-fifth birthday, and the mysterious express package contained only an unlabeled game cartridge. When he inserted the cartridge into the game console that had not been used for many years, the blinding white light engulfed everything...
Zhou Yao sat up suddenly and looked around. Towering ancient trees rose from the ground, with vines twining around their trunks; there were rustling sounds from the bushes; and there were faint and clear bird calls in the distance - but they were not any birds he was familiar with. The sound is more like... Bobo?
"Have I traveled through time?" He pinched his cheek, and the pain was too real to be doubted.
Zhou Yao fumbled for his belongings - in his jeans pocket there was a mobile phone (no signal), wallet (the banknotes inside could only be used as souvenirs in this world), and half a pack of leftover mints. He shook his head with a wry smile, at least it was better than using bare hands.
The illustrated book suddenly made a "didi" sound, and a line of text was displayed on the screen: "Trainer's vital signs detected, system activated. Welcome to the Kanto region, please go to the nearest Shinshin Town Pokémon Research Institute to register."
"Zhenxin Town? Kanto area?" Zhou Yao's heartbeat accelerated, and the animation scenes in his childhood memories were in his mind.
